Grisailles :
1. Purchase Panels - I used chopping boards.
2. Seal board with thinned PVA Glue.
3. Beat Gesso lightly.
4. Apply Gesso in thin layers – horizontally then vertically.
5. Build up until happy with surface.
6. Sand with flour paper.
7. Seal with thin layer of water based matt varnish.
8. Denib surface.
9. Apply thin translucent coats of white oil paint. (Paint and turps.)
10. Draw image in Indian ink.
11. Wait until dry then over-paint small details with oil paint – I used Payne’s Grey.
12. Leave to dry.
The images continue my theme of the built environment:- interiors, exteriors, townscape etc.
